Ahh, Spring is in the air, the birds are chirping, the rain is falling. Googbye Winter!!

Human breastmilk keeps babies healthy; cow's milk is intended for small furry animals, not humans

Newly published research shows that breast-fed babies have lower blood pressure as children than bottle-fed babies. The finding isn't surprising, given the tremendous health benefits of breastmilk vs. formula. Anyone familiar with the fundamentals of nutrition is almost certainly outraged by the ingredients used in baby formula: high fructose corn syrup (promotes lifelong obesity and diabetes), cow's milk (promotes allergies, asthma and ear infections in infants), and even artificial flavor enhancers and colors.
Too much baby food is high in sugar, high in salt, and notably lacking in vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber -- just like most adult food these days. In fact, these baby food formula products help train infants to desire foods high in sugar and salt: an unfortunate taste habit that will undoubtedly lead to chronic disease later in their adult life.

Let's face it, folks: breastmilk is what human babies need. And by breastmilk, I mean human breastmilk, not the milk from another species. Cow's milk is a terrible food choice for humans of any age. Nature knows best, and in nature, you don't see members of one species running up to a lactating mother of another species to take a drink. Only humans could be so stupid. Furthermore, breastmilk from any species is baby food, not adult food. The nutritional markers clearly spell it out.

So why do so many human adults still drink baby food from cows? Must have something to do with the clever marketing of the dairy industry: "Hey, let's convince an entire country of adults to drink baby food from lactating cows!" And that's exactly what they did.

The only time you should be drinking cow's milk is if you look in the mirror one day and notice that you're covered in brown fur, you have four hooves, a large black cow nose, and a fly swatting tail. If that's you, go ahead and drink cow's milk.

Easy Fruit Pizza

A note from our chef:
This is an easy, affordable, versatile desssert to make and is always a hit with grown ups and kids alike. A stunning presentation is a cinch to make with lots of colorful fruit.

"Crust": One roll of Sugar Cookie Dough (the kind in the tube). Roll out on baking stone or cookie sheet. Keep in mind the cookie will "grow" a bit - so don't go over the edges. Bake according to package directions or when lightly golden. Allow to cool. (*hint: use 1/2 of another tube if you want more of a "thick" crust).

"Sauce": This version included one tub of strawberry cream cheese fruit dip (I used T. Marzetti's which is found in the produce section at most US groceries), 1/2 tub cool-whip, 8oz cream cheese, and 1/4 cup sugar all blended together with an electric mixer. Use this batter to spread on the cookie crust once cool enough. You really can't go wrong with what you throw together for this 'concoction'. Other things I've used in "sauces": marshmallow creme, powdered sugar, yogurt.

"Toppings": Fruit of any kind. This pizza shown had strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, fresh pineapple, rasberries, and halved grapes.

What is your earliest memory of breastfeeding?
When my now 17 year old son was born, I was barely 19. I had an emergency c-section and I didn't have him in my arms until almost 2 hours later. Back then 'rooming-in' wasn't heard of much. They brought him to me at 4 hour intervals 2am/pm, 6am/pm & 10am/pm. I remember that breastfeeding him wasn't a choice.. it just came naturally, no other options came into play. I had no idea what I was doing, I never read a single book, never once talked with a consultant, and the first time I nursed him, it was as if he teaching me, everything was perfect. He self-weaned (no encouragement on my part) at 15 months.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up with my mother, sister and brother in Canton, Michigan. We lived in a townhouse complex that was dubbed on the streets as "Single Mom Haven" because it was mostly government assisted living. The four of us were very close. What is your dream job?
Photographer for a travel magazine/photojournalist/Artistic Photography

How do (did) family and friends react to your nursing?
100% support all the way around, including my in-laws. And now that I'm nursing a toddler, I'll get the occassional "You're STILL nursing him?" but it's never followed with anything negative.

Do (did) you have problems nursing in public or in front of people?
No problems at all. I've been lucky in that I haven't experienced any grief with NIP. Sometimes I'd secretly dare strangers to give me a dirty look or comment, just so I can use my encyclopedia of comebacks LOL.

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
Mothering Gavin has been a whole new world for me compared to my other son. It's like being a new mom all over again. My favorite part of being a mom to my older son is that we can talk about anything, I enjoy being there for him and offering him advice. Being a mom to Gavin, I'd say my favorite thing is being his tutor and guide to the world around him, watching him grow and seeing his personality shine through more and more each day.
