What some celebrities say about breastfeeding
Tori Amos
Singer-songwriter Tori Amos shocked her fans when she announced the birth of her baby girl. Word of her pregnancy was kept hush-hush. Amos said about the first time she nursed her daughter, “An ounce of breastmilk is more potent than the finest tequila.”
Erykah Badu
Singer and actress Erykah Badu has released several albums, including her critically acclaimed 1997 debut Baduizm. She talks about becoming a mother:“When I first had the baby, I breastfed for two years straight, so we were together for two years of his life every day, all hours of the day. So I was two people, and I eventually morphed back into one. Now he’s part of me. He’s very independent as a result of it. I thought it was going to be the opposite. I was very worried that he was going to be attached since we were together every day, but I guess it made him feel comfortable: ‘I know she’s around. She’ll be there.’It made me feel like a very responsible person…I’m now responsible for someone’s whole reason for being.”
Jodie Foster
You saw the Jodie Foster film "Anna and the King" and you thought Jodie has dieted her way down to pre-pregnancy weight? Well, according to an article in the New York Daily News, Jodie has slimmed down after the birth of her son in September 1998 by breastfeeding.
"I just couldn't stop losing weight with the breastfeeding," Jodie said in the Daily News article. "I ate as much as I possibly could, but I kept losing. You'll see why when you meet Charlie. He's a stocky guy, and he likes to eat and eat more. You cook it, he'll eat it." . . . .
Faith Hill
Country Music Network aired a biography of singer Faith Hill (who is married tocountry star Tim McGraw). Faith talked about how she would take breaks fromshooting her latest music video to breastfeed her daughter.
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and her fiancé, actor Michael Douglas, had a baby boy in August. Zeta-Jones and Douglas were interviewed by the British tab OK! Magazine in October, and both mom and dad talked about breastfeeding. Zeta-Jones talked about how for some people, breastfeeding is easier said than done, although she apparently had no problems getting her son latched on and nursing right away.
"I'm going to do it as long as I can. ...there is something so intimate about it. For that one hour or 45 minutes it's just wonderful. It's wonderful bonding and you know they're getting these antibodies."
Jerry Hall
An issue of Vanity Fair featured a picture of model and actress Jerry Hall breastfeeding her and Mick Jagger’s son, Gabriel. The picture was taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz and is featured in Leibovitz’s latest book entitled “Women.”In the photo, Jerry is elegantly dressed (heels and everything) sitting in a chair, breastfeeding her son. The message - breastfeeding can be glamorous, and she’s not worried about an “accident” on her designer outfit!
Tipper Gore
"I breastfed all my children and I am a very strong proponent [of breastfeeding]. It was one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences of motherhood, so far. It is very healthy for the child which should appeal to all mothers. It is basic nutrition. It's nature's way, and that's a good thing. It helps with emotional bonding."

Rita Wilson

Cream Cheese Frosting
A note from our chef:
Ok, for this month's recipe, we're doing something short but sweet--and yummy! I love cream cheese frosting, but often I find that the frosting tastes more like sugar than cream cheese. Well, I for one, think that the cream cheese is the best part of cream cheese frosting! So here's a recipe you can put on top of just about any cake or muffin to make it better (carrot cake would be ideal!). The picture shows the frosting on top of some cinnamon scones. Note: If you plan to frost an entire two-layer cake with this, I would suggest doubling this recipe.
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup confectioners' (powdered) sugar, sifted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
In a bowl with an electric mixer beat cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy. Add confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon and beat until combined well.
Told you it was short and sweet! I think the cinnamon adds a yummy touch, but if it's too much for you, feel free to omit it. And of course, always remember my mantra--if a recipe says "unsalted" butter, use unsalted butter! Don't learn the hard way like I did.

What is your earliest memory of breastfeeding?
The first time I nursed my first baby. His heart rate had been dropping during labor, and they wanted to make sure he was fine, so I didn't get to nurse him right away. When I finally got to, we just stared at each other for a few minutes. I was in love It seemed so perfect, and natural.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Detroit, Michigan but moved to Harper Woods, Michigan when I was about 5. I moved out of Harper Woods when I was 20.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would have to be something dealing with taking care of people. I would love to one day be a midwife or a social worker.
How do family and friends react to your nursing?
My whole family was very supportive. My grandmother's didn't nurse so of course, I got, "Maybe he's not getting enough" My finance' John was all for it. I have two aunts who nursed their children. They were really helpful
Do you have problems nursing in public or in front of people?
At first I was really embarrassed. With my first, I would usually go in another room when we had people over. With my 2nd, I just lift my shirt, I don't care anymore. If I'm hungry I don't want people to tell me that I have to wait. Recently I nursed my baby at Sesame Street Live. No one even noticed, if they did they didn't have a problem with it! But, I was ready lol.
What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
have to say my favorite thing would be all the hugs and kisses I get. Even with my first being almost 4, and a daddy's boy, when he's hurt or tired, he still wants Mama. We co-sleep and I really love waking up to the boys talking to each other. Those are my favorite times.
